Our opera-no-opera is by no means religious.
It is not about the Diamond Sutra. It is not based on the Diamond Sutra. It is inspired by the concepts of the Diamond Sutra.
It also is not about Buddha and/or Buddhism.
Although, as we look through the text, yes, Buddha, Subhuti etc. are mentioned, the opera-no-opera is NOT preaching.
Instead, our project is attempting to live its life and exist within the concepts presented by the sutra, which of course innately tells us not to form concepts and teachings etc. So we are not.
The use of the Diamond Sutra is there because, as David Rosenboom says it,
"...cuts deep and fast. The rhythm, the cycles of expression with subtle changes that suddenly become profound shifts, the form...which has incredibly malleable applicability while maintaining incisive, inescapable, unswerving essence, the form of its cloaking story as a dialogue of increased understanding; so much to learn from its form which is no form which works. Perhaps the usefulness of a non-beginning will also emerge."1
